Resolution Interview #8 - Mary Haskett

Name: Mary Haskett

Age: A senior ;)

Where you live: London, Ontario

Mary Haskett has been writing for ten years. Since the launching of her book Reverend Mother's Daughter, she has had numerous requests to speak to different groups.

1. What activities do you enjoy most in winter?
Outdoor activities are practically nil now. I do continue to go swimming twice a week and do exercises to music in my apartment!

2. What equipment is a “must” at this time of year?
The treadmill in our apartment block!

3. How do you feel about New Year Resolutions?
I think intentions are good, but hard to keep.

4. What was the best resolution you’ve ever made?
I really don't know! I have set goals to finish projects and usually manage to do that. My resolution for 2009 is to have my second book completed by June!

5. What was the worst resolution you’ve ever made?
Oh dear this senior state of life causes one to forget!

6. How do you manage to keep up your resolution into the summer?
It's easier. I like getting up early to write. And I love walking outside in the summer time.

7. Do you share your resolutions with anyone?
My husband, who is sometimes amused as I try to make myself stay with one task. I tend to multi-task, but that's the nature of women - right!

8. Do you record your resolutions anywhere?
If writing a "to do list" counts, yes I do, and I gleefully tick off when done!

9. What top 3 health tips do you have to manage in this holiday season?
1. Not to over indulge in desserts. I love mince tarts and plum pudding.
2. To try and walk the treadmill and keep swimming.
3. To take all left over goodies to the church for the children to share. That's probably not being very kind to the children, at least from a health perspective.

Thanks, Mary!
I love to exercise to music too…the louder the better. Currently I’m listening to Jars of Clay. My kids seem to like it to and join me in our home gym.

Mary, Re your comments to #7. Glad to hear that other women also 'struggle' to stay focused on one task.... I grew up watching my mom multi-task and have done it myself for years.

Multi-tasking certainly has its place, but I'm learning to enjoy how to focus on one or two tasks, giving it my full attention and energy, instead of trying to juggle 5 or 6 at one time!

All the best as you work to complete your new book by June!

Although each of us has a number of things we need to juggle each day, I agree that it's important to focus on one or two at a time and give them full attention.
