1. What activities do you enjoy most in winter?
Indoors, it would have to be reading, being more contemplative, watching videos at home with my husband. Oh, yes, and coffee conversations with good friends. Outdoors, I enjoy winter picnics on not so frosty days, and walks out in the snowy quiet of Elk Island National Park.
2. What equipment is a “must” at this time of year?
How about a shovel for all that snow! I don’t have a treadmill or a stationary bike, so it’s total reliance on my own two legs for walking (or go to the gym with my hubby, only the track gets really boring).
3. How do you feel about New Year Resolutions?
Don’t like ‘em! I used to make resolutions each year, but would get so discouraged because I never knew how to keep the momentum.
4. What was the best resolution you’ve ever made?
To quit making resolutions. I have dreams and aspirations for each New Year, but I don’t actually make ‘resolutions’ anymore.
5. What was the worst resolution you’ve ever made?
I can’t think of any that fit ‘worst’.
6. How do you manage to keep up your resolution into the summer?
Now there’s a question. I’ve always had trouble staying motivated for any great length of time, resolutions or otherwise, mostly because I got easily bored. I never realized that even resolutions, like any goal, need a beginning, and an end. Resolutions seemed to stretch to never-never land. How could anyone ever hope to stick with something forever! BUT NOW… I’ve learned that a 90-day challenge is often my ‘perfect’ fit. It’s long enough to stretch and develop a new habit, but not so long to get bored and sidetracked. At the end of 90 days, I can always renegotiate to continue or not. And because I was successful for the first 90 days, I’m often motivated to continue. As well, for whatever reason, calling it a challenge instead of a resolution has made a difference.
7. Do you share your resolutions with anyone?
I never used to, for fear of having to face someone if I didn’t complete them. (Looking at it now, it seems I set myself up for failure.) I have now discovered that sharing my plans with my fellow bloggers on-line, and with family and friends, I stay motivated and focussed. Their encouragement cheers me on.
8. Do you record your resolutions anywhere?
Always in my journal, and now on my blog.
9. What top 3 health tips do you have to manage in this holiday season?
1) Treat your body with love and respect when it comes to eating. After all, she’s been fearfully and wonderfully made. Is the 30 seconds of pleasure worth the 3 hours of discomfort?
2) Take mini-rests often. I am always amazed at how long 30 seconds feels when I stop and call my body to relax and rest. I’m even more amazed at how much better I feel with those mini moments of de-stressing.
3) Eat your fiber. Hey, I’m not kidding. With all the other ‘goodies’ we tend to eat over holiday celebrations, sometimes our systems get out of sync. Just a third cup of All-Bran added to whatever else you eat in a day keeps things moving. (Hey, move over, William Shatner!)
Thanks, Brenda! I agree that a shovel is a necessary tool in Canada! Just today I spent 30-minutes shoveling my front walkway. It’s a great full body workout.

Hey, I've used the shovel for a workout too! :) I like the idea of a 90-day challenge instead of just an open-ended resolution.
Hmm, a 90-day challenge eh. This is something for me to think about!
